Docklands Summer Festival 2016
May 24, 2016
Docklands Summer Festival once again took place at Grand Canal Dock last weekend, and what a weekend of smiles and sunshine was had.
Docklands Summer Festival describes itself as an ‘on water extravaganza’, taking place on the river as well as dry land – so everyone’s fun is doubled!
Wakeboarding is not something you see every day but visitors were treated to a spectacular on-water parade of skill and sea savviness, including a best wake-board trick competition hosted by Wakedock. Did you enter the Bank of Ireland Floating Golf Challenge? Competitors had to use their golfing skills to putt the ball over 100 yards of water to the floating golf green, all in the name of good fun!
Our media partners 98FM were broadcasting live on Saturday, capturing the festivals fun and magic and even chatted to rugby star Shane Jennings about the festival highlights. There was plenty buzz and excitement for the Racin’ In the Basin raft challenge, local business were competing for the 2016 title, and competition was tight! The worthy winners rose to the challenge, out paddling the competition and taking on the river basin – no mean feat! Our little visitors were delighted with the kids funfair, face painting and balloons on offer – so many photo opportunities for Mums and Dads. Those on land were treated to a host of craft markets and delicious food stalls (with the sea air making everyone hungry)
Docklands Summer Festival’s highlight was once again the Irish Underwater Search and Recovery Unit Charity Rubber Duck Race, what a beautiful sight seeing the decorated yellow ducks fight for the coveted first spot!
A huge thank you to all those who came to take part in Docklands Summer Festival 2016, we hope you loved the weekend as much as we did – Enjoy some of our photo’s highlights below!
