Guinness to kick off summer by opening Dublin St James’ gates for first ever open-air concert with Disclosure
Guinness has announced that it is kicking off a festival of summer events in May, by inviting music lovers through its famous James’s Street gate for an outdoor concert.
Lovely Day to Open the Gates will be in the heart of Dublin 8, St. James’s Gate on Saturday 18 May where there’ll be live music performances by Irish and international artists and a festival of food created by local chefs.
Fresh from Coachella, Disclosure will be the headline act following the release of their fourth studio album Alchemy last July. This will be the first and only time they will perform live to an Irish audience this year.
Disclosure have clocked up over 11 billion streams, sold over seven million albums. They have played major global shows, from a sold-out Madison Square Garden, to headline slots on Glastonbury’s Other Stage and large-scale sets at Coachella.
Guests can expect festival vibes with a custom-built music stage and delicious food from Man Street Kitchen, Mani Pizza, Mamma’s Boy Food, Mushroom Butcher and Bish Bosh featuring local dishes inspired by the flavours of Guinness and our beloved Irish summer.
“This is a huge moment for us. For the first time ever, the brewery will be transformed for one day only for an open-air music spectacular,” Jeanette Levis, Guinness Marketing Manager said.

Visual ‘portal’ connects Dublin and New York City
Dublin and New York City have been linked-up in a real-time visual bridge as part of a groundbreaking art project.
‘The Portal’ art installation features an on-street sculpture with a 24/7 livestream of both Dublin and New York in either city.
The two portals form part of a public art project aiming to unite citizens via technology on either side of the Atlantic Ocean.
The sculpture allows for real-time interaction between Dubliners, New Yorkers and visitors to both cities.
Dublin’s portal faces on to O’Connell Street capturing both the GPO and the Spire.
The NYC portal is located on the Flatiron South Public Plaza at Broadway, Fifth Avenue, and 23rd Street, one of the Big Apple’s most dynamic intersections.
The sculpture has been unveiled this afternoon by Lord Mayor of Dublin Daithí De Róiste, and included a special performance by The Liberties Majorettes in a nod to the New York connection.
“One of my key aims as Lord Mayor is to make the city more inclusive,” said Mr De Róiste .
“I would encourage Dubliners and visitors to the city to come and interact with the sculpture and extend an Irish welcome and kindness to cities all over the world.
“This project is an example of one of the many exciting things to expect in Dublin during 2024 as part of our EU Capital of Smart Tourism Designation.”
The portal is set to become a fixture of Dublin’s streetscape throughout the summer and runs until the autumn.
In the coming months, the public can expect scheduled programming, including cultural performances at each city’s portal that will be enjoyed by people in the other city via the livestream.
Programming will kick-off in mid-May with a visual program to celebrate New York Design Week.
From July, the Dublin portal will also connect to other global city destinations in Poland, Brazil and Lithuania.
Benediktas Gylys, Lithuanian artist and founder of the portal, said: “Portals are an invitation to meet people above borders and differences and to experience our world as it really is – united and one.

Luke Kelly’s life and music is ‘worth celebrating’
A festival celebrating legendary musician Luke Kelly will return to Dublin next month after its successful debut last year.
Mary Black, Lisa O’Neill, Phelim Drew, The Dublin Legends, fiddle master Kevin Burke, and local folk artists will perform over two days in Smithfield Square on May 18 and 19.
Luke Kelly’s nephew, Luke McCann, said the family is “delighted” to see the festival running for another year.
“He’s 40 years gone now, just this January, and our family is still amazed by how popular he still is to this day,” he said.
“I was fourteen when he passed, but my grandmother used to host these grand Christmas parties which I have great memories of with him. I used to play football in Whitehall, and he’d be visiting my granny then. He loved the sport and anything with a ball he’d watch. He achieved a lot for someone from Sheriff Street and has a life worth celebrating,” he added.
Reflecting on his uncle’s continued popularity, Mr McCann added: “I can only suspect that it’s because people relate to him. It may sound cliché, but Luke was one of them.”
The folk singer with the Dubliners was described as a “happy-go-lucky kind of fella”.
A statue of Luke Kelly’s face remains at the bottom of Sheriff Street to mark the impact of the singer who was born into a working-class household in the inner city.
The festival will also offer those looking to learn more about Luke, the Dubliners, and Dublin folk a special opportunity with a dedicated workshop and discussion tent.

Dublin student crowned Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year for 2024
Dublin Leaving Cert student Fiachra Cotter O’Culachain has been named Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year 2024 for his short film Ivy.
He was named the overall winner of the competition at the Fresh International Film Festival at Omniplex Cinema and Troy Studios in Limerick. Dundrum native Fiachra wrote, directed and edited the short film.
Ivy is a coming-of-age story featuring Hugh, a teenager whose life takes a turn when he meets the new “girl-next-door” Ivy.
“Fiachra’s award-winning film, Ivy, is a perfect example of short filmmaking. It boasts a compelling story, talented ensemble cast, and impressive cinematography,” said Fresh International Film Festival director Jayne Foley.
“Made by teens for teens, it beautifully captures the timeless tale of ‘boy meets girl.’ It’s truly a deserving recipient of the title Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year 2024.”
The “fantastically shot” winning film was praised for its “beautiful cinematography and natural performances” from the young ensemble cast.
It was Fiachra’s third time entering the Young Filmmaker of the Year. Last year he made a film focusing on the Covid-19 pandemic and he already has plans for his next project, set to begin filming in August.
The second place award went to 17-year-old Co Leitrim girl Olivia Louise Curto for Freequencies, the story of 10-year-old boy Oliver’s experiences with electromagnetic hypersensitivity.
In third place was the “thought-provoking film” Adaptation of the Only Nightmare I’ve Ever Had by Jake Dundon from Co Tipperary. The award for best school went to St James CBS in The Liberties, Dublin for Charlie, a “gripping” short film following the journey of teenager Charlie as he deals with homelessness and family illness.
Emerging Limerick Filmmakers took home the best group award for Rat King, a film about a young boy who falls in love with a dead rat.

Dublin Airport to complete rollout of 3D scanners by October 2025
Dublin Airport has published an update on its ongoing work to replace scanning equipment across its two terminals.
Around a third of the airport’s 30+ existing x-ray scanners have now been replaced by new generation C3 scanners in partnership with Smiths Detection Ltd.
All scanners at Dublin’s Terminal 2 are scheduled to be replaced by this October, but the airport’s managing director Gary McLean said that the rollout at Terminal 1 “will take a little longer, with some reconfiguration works required to accommodate the new scanners, which are much bigger and heavier than the existing scanning machines”.
McLean added that “By the end of May we’ll have four C3 scanners operational in T1 and then with a very busy summer ahead, installation works will pause for the months of June, July and August, before resuming in September”.
The airport said that it was on track to replace all scanners across both terminals by October 2025, ahead of the regulatory deadline of 31 December next year.
The rollout will eventually allow all passengers to leave liquids and laptops inside their cabin bags at security, and to carry larger bottles of liquids with them – but until then customers should adhere to current rules as “there’s no guarantee that you will be selected for a screening lane which has a new C3 scanner”.
The update follows the recent announcement by the UK’s Department for Transport that it has granted extensions to some airports which have yet to finishing installing new-generation CT scanners, effectively abandoning the previous June 2024 deadline.

Bank of America added 200 roles in Dublin as EU hub’s profits jumped
Pretax profits rose by 158% last year to €1.73 billion, helped in part by rising interest rates
Bank of America’s EU banking hub in Dublin grew its local workforce by a fifth to 1,200 last year, mainly as it expanded its international technology and operations centre.
The jobs increase also came as the Irish-based Bank of America Europe unit saw its pretax profit jump 158 per cent last year to $1.84 billion (€1.73 billion), driven by rising interest rates and a release of some reserves it had previously put away to cover loan losses.
The company freed up $80 million (€75 million) of such reserves, reversing a large portion of the $106 million (€99.5 million) of provisions it had set aside in 2022 as the European economy weakened amid rising inflation and the Ukraine war.
Bank of America chose Dublin as its EU headquarters in 2017. The unit, which had an average of 2,548 employees across the continent last year, has two main divisions: global banking and markets, and a support services division. The US banking giant has had a presence in the Republic since 1968.
Net interest income at the subsidiary more than doubled to $1.09 billion (€1.02 billion).
Bank of America Europe had $17.1 billion (€16 billion) of cash with central banks at the end of last year. Still, it is understood that this is a much higher figure than for most of the year and partly reflects how corporates like to have high levels of cash on their balance sheets at the end of a year.

Artists urged to bring more colour to the streets of Dublin
Artists are being asked to bring “less grey” and “more play” to Dublin’s streets by turning 104 traffic control boxes into works of art as part of the Dublin Canvas initiative.
The spring callout was launched this week across three of the four local authorities, with grants offered to the selected artists.
Dublin Canvas said the project is intended to bring flashes of colour and creativity to everyday objects and will utilise previously unused public space, transforming it into canvases to “brighten up” each area.
Artists bringing their own materials will be paid €300, while those without materials will receive €250 and will be provided with a portable pack containing the necessary tools and paints.

Dublin among world’s data centre leaders, according to survey
Dublin continues to be ranked in the top 10 in the world in terms of the size of its data-centre market and one of the top five in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
According to the latest data centre survey by estate agents Cushman & Wakefield, Ireland’s development pipeline is also ranked 10th in the world based on amount of IT load, including planning applications, and second highest in EMEA, after Frankfurt.
A separate survey by construction consultants Mitchell McDermott forecasts that construction investment in Irish data centres may increase to more than €13b by 2025. While it points out that existing data centres in the pipeline will go ahead, it warns that construction growth in Irish data centres may reduce by €1.58b between 2023 and 2025 due to a lack of available power.
Mitchell McDermott also point out that on-site gas consideration for future data-centre projects is at risk due to the government’s carbon emission targets.
Cushman says demand is so strong that Dublin has a low vacancy rate of only 2pc, which is 13th lowest in the world and sixth lowest in EMEA.
Cloud market presence is a key driver of demand and cloud presence in Dublin has pushed it into the top five of the 92 markets surveyed in the world.
Dublin also ranks in the top 10 in terms of incentives and regulations which appeal to developers. When it comes to operational IT load, Dublin is ranked 16th of the markets surveyed around the world and third in EMEA behind London and Amsterdam.
7 openers to be aware of in Dublin right now
The exact kind of news we love to see, all in one place.
It’s true that openers have been few and far between since 2024 kicked off, slowing down massively from the surge of new openings we saw towards the end of 2023. That said, things do seem to be picking up for new hospitality ventures, with plenty of new spots for us to shout about, many of which have only flung their doors open this very week. We’ve got the reopening of old pubs, a new eatery in a beloved salad chain, not to mention two new bakeries (three if you include Scéal Bakery, which launched at the Greystones Marina last month).
So if you’re a little behind on your Dublin food news, here are all the openers you might have missed hearing about over the last few weeks.
Brown Bag Bakery
Roselawn Shopping Centre, Dublin 15, more info here
We’ve only been discussing how Dublin is in a bit of bakery boom, even writing a full feature on the phenomena, when we were proved right once again with the opening of Brown Bag Bakery (10/10 name), based in Blanchardstown.
There’s something about a bakery set up that has display pastries out on translucent brown paper, with each one labelled in black marker that just makes it known the baked goods themselves are bound to be legendary. The space is pared back and looks somewhat undone, but the pastries on display, the pear and almond bun in particular looks sensational.
Coffee is also on the cards, with beans sourced from Groundwork Coffee Co.
Sprout
Camden Street, more info here
A highly anticipated opener for anyone working in and around Camden Street, it’s time for the shutters to lift on Sprout’s sixth Dublin location.
Even the person most opposed to the salad as a meal will have to take their hat off to the bowls that come out of Sprout. The warm bowls in particular will keep you satiated well past your dinner time, the kind of meal that has you pop on some beans and toast at 9pm because you nearly forgot to eat before bed altogether.
It’s hard to choose a fighter from Sprout; I had something of a relationship with the Charred Chicken taco bowl, before embarking on a brief rendezvous with the Bombay bowl, and finally settling into a love affair with the simple but effective Sataysfied bowl (yes, I’m using romantic relations as a metaphor, that’s how much of a fan I am of Sprout).

Dublin Paralympian says winning a table tennis medal in Paris would be a ‘dream’
A Dubliner who is ranked in the top ten Paralympic table tennis players in the world, says securing a medal at the games this year would be a “dream”.
Colin Judge, born and raised in Blackrock, is preparing for his second Paralympic Games in Paris from August 28 to September 8 this year.
He is currently the sole table tennis player representing Ireland, with the qualification window closing at the end of March.
Born without three limbs, Colin credits his parents for encouraging his independence as he was growing up.
“I’ve tried to do as much as I can by myself, and I think that made me strong when difficulties arose through my teenage years when I became more aware,” he said.
Since debuting internationally in 2012, Colin has represented Ireland multiple times, securing notable victories, including his first gold medal at the 2015 Romanian Open and claiming five Irish National Championships.

Old letters from Irish immigrants in US digitised
Across the Atlantic and far away, how do the Irish abroad feel on St Patrick’s Day?
That is one of the questions that can now be explored through a recently launched online database of thousands of letters and memoirs by Irish emigrants to North America, which have been digitised by academics at the University of Galway.
The Imirce online archive features letters from as far back as the 1600s from Irish emigrants and gives a personal insight into their struggles and successes in their newly adopted homeland as they wrote home to family and friends in Ireland.
On St Patrick’s Day 1922, Denis Hurley originally from Clonakilty in west Cork, wrote to his brother John thanking him for sending shamrock to him and telling him that St Patrick’s Day in Carson City, Nevada is a bit different to home, due to prohibition laws and said it was hard to get a drink.
His letter is one of many that Denis wrote to his brother on the occasion of St Patrick’s Day.
Denis and another brother, Michael, emigrated to the United States in the 1870s.
Originally from a farming family, the brothers settled in different cities in America and regularly wrote to relatives in Cork.
One letter read:
“16th March 1914 Your welcome letter of Feb 27th received – 14 days journey.
“Thanks for the card and shamrock. They appear in pretty good state of preservation.
“I see by dispatches from Queenstown (now Cobh) that there was a big wind there, I suppose it reached into your section.
“How is our dear sister? Never a line from the dear lady. Too bad that we would not be on writing terms any way.
“A few years more will find our bodies laid in the cold earth. Tim is too busy or his health too poor also. Well I hope that St Patrick’s Day 1915 will find Ireland thriving under Home Rule and enjoying peace and prosperity.”

Public transport will operate a Sunday timetable on St Patrick’s Day, including intercity trains and Darts, with some additional commuter services in place for those planning to attend the parade.

Oppenheimer‘s Cillian Murphy has become the first Irish-born star to win the Oscar for Best Actor at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles, with Poor Things, produced by the Dublin-based Element Pictures, winning in four categories, including Best Actress for Emma Stone.
Oppenheimer was the big winner on the night with seven Academy Awards, while Murphy accepted his Oscar to a standing ovation.
“I’m a little bit overwhelmed,” the Cork man said on stage in the Dolby Theatre.
He thanked Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan, “every single crew member, every single cast member – you carried me through”, and also saluted his fellow nominees, saying: “I’m in awe of you guys.”
Murphy then thanked his parents, Brendan and Mary; “Yvonne McGuinness, my partner in life and art”, and “my two boys, Malachy and Aran, who are sitting up there – I love you so much.”
“I’m a very proud Irishman standing here tonight,” said Murphy.
He concluded: “We made a film about the man who created the atomic bomb, and for better or for worse, we’re all living in Oppenheimer’s world, so I would really like to dedicate this to the peacemakers everywhere.
“Go raibh míle maith agaibh.”

It’s very important to celebrate the Dublin women who can get lost in history
New photo exhibition opens on life in Dublin’s Docklands.
A Dublin photographer has said “‘it’s very important to celebrate the women who sometimes get lost in history”.
A new exhibition, showcasing the lives and history of the community of Dublin’s Docklands, is now open to the public at the Windmill Quarter in Dublin’s South Docks.
Named Docklanders, the exhibition features images by photographic artist Jeanette Lowe, as well as old photographs from the local community, and some of the 6,000 photographs collected by the Dublin Dock Workers Preservation Society.
While many of the men living in the area worked as dockers, there were other industries located in the Docklands area.
Many women worked in factories and mills located on the north and south docks. Up until the early 1970s they would often be required to stop working once they were married – Jeanette believes it’s important to remember them too.
“The dockers, the men, would be the first ones to say there were women as well. That’s what I want to highlight, the women, the community,” she said.

10 of the best places in Dublin for a big stack of pancakes
When you just want someone to make the Matilda style pancakes for you.
Sure, if you opt to dine out, you won’t be able to control if “Send Me On My Way” is playing in the background, but you can release the stress of flipping failures and uncooked pancakes by heading out for your stack.
Pancake Tuesday is upon us once more, and we thought the people of Dublin could do with a fresh round up of the best places for a hefty stack in the city. Whether you’re looking for a classic lemon and sugar or a hearty bacon and maple syrup accompaniment, there’ll be something for you on this round-up.
10. One Society
Gardiner Street Lower, Dublin 1
One Society has a brunch menu that follows an excellent formula of familiarity with a side of imagination. Pancake fans can opt for the “simple” or the “full on” versions and while the full-on has the usual suspects like bacon and maple syrup listed, curious eaters can venture further from the mainstream and sample the house-made pineapple, cinnamon and vanilla compote with whipped cream. They also have something called the ‘Hangover stack’ which sounds just like the cure you need after a heavy night, a plate of pancakes topped with bacon, ricotta cheese, and an ambitious mixture of spicy tabasco and sweet maple syrup – a fried egg on top completes this life-saving plate.

Dublin weather: Snow and sleet to hit as temperatures plummet below freezing
The milder spell is set to end with snow and sleet set to hit tonight as temperatures plunge below freezing.
Dubliners are waking up to a cold morning with frost and icy stretches and Met Eireann say we can expect much the same in the coming days. The latest forecast for Dublin says Wednesday will remain cold with highs of 4 to 5C although there will be hazy sunshine for much of the day.
However, frost and ice will set in this evening under those clear skies. Wintery outbreaks of rain will develop later which will turn to sleet and snow in places, particularly on higher ground as temperatures will drop to between -1 and 2C.

New underground electricity cable routes for Dublin revealed
Three major cross-city construction projects to begin this year, one of which is due to run through land at Leopardstown racecourse.
The first three routes selected for the replacement of underground electricity cables across Dublin, under a city-wide construction programme expected to take up to five years, have been revealed by EirGrid.
The operator is embarking on a major upgrade of the capital’s electricity grid, replacing 50km of underground cabling – some of which is up to 50 years old – on routes linking substations at Carrickmines and Poolbeg; North Wall and Poolbeg; Finglas and North Wall; with two routes required to link Inchicore and Poolbeg.
EirGrid last March published 12 route options for the cables, and following public consultation has chosen the final routes for the first three lines, with the two Inchicore routes due to be announced in the coming months. The work is due to start at the end of this year and be completed by 2029.

Discounted public transport fares in Dublin to stay
Discounted Leap card fares that were first introduced in 2022, including the ability to travel for 90 minutes across Dublin for a flat fee of €2 are to remain in place, the National Transport Authority (NTA) said.
The TFI €2 fare allows commuters to transfer between Dublin Bus, Luas and most DART, commuter rail and Go-Ahead services, and the NTA said this has led to an increase in passenger numbers across its services.
Over 308 million passenger journeys were provided by Dublin Bus, Bus Éireann, Iarnród Éireann, Luas, Go-Ahead Ireland and TFI Local Link on ‘Transport for Ireland’ Public Service Obligation (PSO) services last year.
This made it the busiest ever year for its public transport network, according to preliminary figures for 2023, which were released last week.
This is the first year that passenger numbers on PSO services have exceeded 300 million.
In its 2024 fares plan published today, the NTA said there was a 24% increase in passenger numbers in 2023, when compared with the previous year, and a 5% increase above the previous record year in 2019.

Dublin weather: Met Eireann forecaster’s snow and frost verdict as Dubs prepare for Arctic blast
Dublin Live spoke to Met Eireann’s Deirdre Lowe about the dreaded drop in temperatures this week – and whether snow is on the cards.
Dubs are bracing themselves for a full throttle Arctic blast hitting the country over the coming days.
Temperatures will plunge to lows of minus four degrees on Tuesday night. And the cold snap will drag on into Wednesday, with traffic chaos likely amid the tumultuous weather.
Dublin Live spoke to Met Eireann’s Deirdre Lowe today for further insights on the biting cold ahead. The meteorologist confirmed that snow remains possible amid the freezing forecast.
Deirdre explained: “There is a slight chance for a dusting of snow in parts Dublin, although it will probably occur north of the Dublin area and on the Dublin and Wicklow Mountains. Daytime temperatures on Tuesday will hover around five degrees but it will turn very icy tomorrow night, with a widespread sharp to severe frost.”

Dublin restaurants, cafes and bars with the best vegan food this Veganuary.
From Michelin-recommended restaurants to yoga cafes, micro bakeries and even a beer garden – there are plenty of vegan-friendly venues to explore this Veganuary.
Vegan January – or Veganuary – is upon us, so we have compiled a list of some amazing restaurants and cafes in Dublin that have vegan food on offer.
Many Dubs will be participating in the annual challenge this month but it can be difficult for those not used to the vegan lifestyle to avoid temptation and not order a scrumptious burger or loaded fries when out with friends.
This is why they could be better off going to a venue that has vegan options or is entirely dedicated to vegan food. Here is a list of the best vegan-friendly restaurants, cafes and bars in the capital:
Blazing Salads and Flip
Blazing Salads merged with the popular Flip Burgers in September 2023 and now the spot, located in George’s Street Arcade, offers a range of delicious vegan goodies like salads, hot entrees, handcut fries with vegan cheese and vegan and vegetarian burgers.
They also have juice blends and frozen meals to go, vegan ice cream and milkshakes. Visit Blazing Salad’s website and Flip Burger’s website for more information.
Mema’s
Located on Parnell Street, Mema’s is the perfect place to meet up with friends. The best part of this beer garden is the vegan menu and the non-alcoholic options, ideal for everyone doing Dry January as well.
They regularly have DJ nights and live music sessions, and their colourful and quirky interior makes the place vibrant and friendly. It’s also great to still feel like you’re a part of the group as you all eat your pizza and sip from your beer- even if some of the pizzas are vegan and some of the beers are non-alcoholic.

Council signs off on Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre redevelopment
Grant of planning permission comes four years after Davy Stockbrokers fund bought hub for €175m on behalf of clients.
Dublin City Council has granted planning permission for the €100 million redevelopment of Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre.
The council has gave permission to DTDL Ltd, controlled by a fund operated by stockbroker and wealth manager Davy, after the applicants reduced the scale and massing of the scheme.
Davy has secured the green light for the redevelopment after paying a reported €175 million for the centre on behalf of its clients in 2019.
In recommending a grant of permission, the 51-page council planner’s report concluded that “the proposed reductions to the scale and massing of the building significantly reduces the visual impact on this sensitive environment”

Dublin Christmas Markets 2023: 7 Worth A Visit
So, there isn’t one main Dublin Christmas Market – there are several!
The capital has been severely lacking when it comes to festive markets, but a few recent additions have given the city Christmassy boost.
And, while the last few years have been a bit of a mess, we can expect several Christmas Markets in Dublin in 2023!
If you’re looking to visit Christmas Markets in Dublin in 2023, take 10 seconds to read the points below, first:
1. Don’t believe what 90% of websites are saying
So, if you Google ‘Dublin Christmas Market 2023’ you’ll find a load of websites listing off markets that no longer take place, e.g. the Dublin Flea Christmas Market or the market at the IFSC – they’re using very dated info.
2. There’s very few Bavarian-style markets
There’s hundreds of Christmas fairs taking place across Dublin in halls and car parks. Unfortunately, there’s only one (maybe two) Christmas markets in Dublin in 2023 that are even remotely Bavarian-style (e.g. the one in Dublin Castle).
3. The reality
There’s only one ‘main’ Dublin Christmas market and that’s the one in Dublin Castle. The likes of Mistletown (not running), the old Dun Laoghaire Christmas Market (hasn’t run in several years) and the Guinness Storehouse Christmas Market (it wasn’t a market last year) are all unlikely to go ahead.
7 Christmas markets in Dublin returning in 2023
Although the dates for some of the Dublin Christmas markets are still TBC, a number now have confirmed dates (there are plenty of Christmas markets in Ireland going ahead, too!).
Below, you’ll find the markets that are definitely going ahead along with ones that are very likely to go ahead!
1. The Dublin Castle Christmas Market: Dec 6th – 19th
A couple of years back, the Dublin Castle Christmas market arrived out of nowhere and it went down reasonably well.
It was one of the only Christmas markets in Dublin that went ahead over the last two years and, although small, it’s set in the impressive grounds of Dublin Castle.
In previous years, the castle was finely decked out in fairy lights and the entrance to the castle grounds was lined with 100+ Christmas trees.
The main market is held within the courtyard where there is all of the usual stalls selling festive bits and bobs, a carousel and an open-air bar (more info here).
It has been confirmed that the Dublin Castle Christmas Market will run from 6th December to 19th December from 12:00 to 21:00 daily.

Dublin Docklands could be ‘giant urban playground’ under new waterways plan.
Waterways Ireland 10-year plan to invest €200m in first three years, north-south body says.
Dublin’s docklands could be transformed into “a giant urban playground for people of all ages, abilities, and interests,” according to a 10-year plan published by Waterways Ireland this week.
The plan, which sets out a strategic vision for developing recreational opportunities across Ireland’s waterways, greenways and blueways, will invest €200m in its first three years.

Offices at Central Quay near full occupancy following latest letting
Fully refurbished Dublin docklands building with strong tenant line-up came close to €50m sale earlier this year.
Following on from the recent letting of the entire first floor (11,217sq ft) at Central Quay in Dublin south docklands to Millenium Capital Partners, Hibernia Real Estate Group has now secured Peninsula Petroleum as tenants for part of the building’s second floor. The company has agreed to take 3,845sq ft of space at the building. Both tenants are understood to have committed to a rent of about €54 per sq ft.
The latest letting was handled on Hibernia’s behalf by Rob Mulcair of CBRE while John Shannon of Cushman & Wakefield represented Peninsula Petroleum.
Commenting on the transaction, Mr Mulcair said: “It’s fantastic to see Central Quay nearing full occupancy following its refurbishment. The letting to Peninsula adds another high-calibre tenant which is a testament to the landlords in delivering such a high-quality offering.”

Dublin pub to host pet friendly Christmas market where pups can visit Santa Paws.
The Doggy Christmas market with Santa Paws is coming to BrewDog Outpost Dublin.
Dog owners who want to spend some truly unforgettable time with their pets this Christmas will have the perfect occasion as The Doggy Christmas market comes to the Docklands.
After last Christmas’ success, the market is returning to Brewdog Dublin Outpost on December 17 from 12pm to 5pm. There will be plenty of Irish dog companies that will have a variety of dog related items for sale – just in time to get an amazing Christmas present for your pooch.
As well as that, a few lucky dogs will have the opportunity to get a photo with Santa Paws and browse some of the market stands. Meanwhile, humans will have the opportunity to grab a bite or a drink.
While it is “extremely unlikely” owners will get a Santa Paws photo for their dog unless it is pre-booked on Eventbrite and tickets are sadly all gone, the market itself is free to attend and still promises some great fun for both owners and their pets.
The organisers have also warned however that owners need to consider their dog’s temperament before attending. They said: “Each owner is responsible for their dog and we ask that you consider your dog’s temperament before attending, be respectful towards other dogs and dog owners and most importantly to make sure to pick up any ‘presents’ left by their doggo.”

Part of Dublin’s 18th century sea wall to go on display
Part of Dublin’s original sea wall, which is almost 300-years-old, and a number of other artefacts, including dockworkers’ pipes displaying political and trade union branding, will go on display in a newly-restored Victorian electricity substation at Dublin Port.
