Budget to boost much needed housing supply

The Government is contemplating a number of measures in the budget next month to boost the in-demand housing supply, with reported planning permission for up to 21,000 homes in the Dublin area. Nama is already planning to help with the construction of approximately 4,500 homes in the Dublin Docklands area and other urban centres, and they have identified potential for land and property to create up to five times that number of homes.
Other items also discussed at the meeting included ways to limit rent increases by linking rents to the consumer price index. Also mentioned was the idea of lowering local authority levies for developers who want to build homes in zones with high demand.
