A New Generation in the Dublin Docklands

November 5, 2014

The regeneration of the Dublin Docklands, which started 28 years ago, is said to have been one of the most important factors in raising the profile of Ireland internationally and in attracting the worlds leading companies to Dublin.

Thanks to the incentives introduced in the Finance Act 1986 to encourage urban renewal investment by the private sector, the Docklands were successful in attracting the world’s top financial institutions, insurance companies, impressive high tech companies such as Google and Facebook and top legal and accountancy firms.

There are over 40,000 people working in the area and over 14,000 households.  A study conducted by the Dublin County Council Draft Planning Scheme 2013 showed that the age profile of the population in the area is young, with two thirds of the residents falling within the 25-44 category. Overall, 90 per cent of residents are under 44 years of age, with only 3 per cent over 65.
