Friday 1st June – Monday 4th June, 2018

Dublin City will host a Tall Ships Regatta this coming June Bank holiday weekend. The Regatta is a tall ships race organised by Sail Training International and there are 16 ships participating in the race leg from Liverpool to Dublin. Dublin City Council, Dublin Port Company and Waterways Ireland are the key lead agencies involved in hosting the ships during the Dublin stopover.

10 of the ships will be berthed in Grand Canal Dock with the remaining 6 berthed along Sir John Rogersons Quay, east of the Samuel Beckett Bridge. The ships will arrive in Dublin between 11am and 12pm on Friday 1st June and berthing of ships will take place throughout the afternoon. Ships accessing the river and berthing in the Grand Canal will cause some disruption to vehicular access with the opening of the East Link bridge at various times during the weekend and also restriction on pedestrian access across the Grand Canal Lock walkway during the afternoons of Friday and Sunday.

Activity over the weekend for visitors will include an opportunity to view the ships and also to go on board some of the ships. Walkabout street theatre performances will take place on the Saturday and Sunday afternoons. There may be a small number of street trading units approximately 4 – 6.

A road closure has been applied for on Sir John Rogersons Quay during the following hours:

• Saturday and Sunday 2nd and 3rd June 9am – 9pm
• Monday 4th June 9am – 6pm

Local access will be available via Hanover Quay and access and egress for Benson Street will be facilitated via Sir John Rogersons Quay and back onto Hanover Quay. Parking on Sir John Rogersons Quay will be suspended for the period Friday 1st – Monday the 4th June, 2018.

The ships will have on board approximately 450 professional crew and sail trainees(50 of whom are from Dublin) and a programme of activity will be organised from them over the weekend. The ships will depart from Dublin at approximately 1pm on Monday the 4th June to commence the next leg of their race from Dublin to Bordeaux.
