Dublin City Council recruiting a Design Team for new George’s Dock white-water facility
April 18, 2018
Dublin City Council is recruiting a team to design a new €13 million white-water course at George’s Dock in Custom House Quay.
The architect-led design team chosen for the contract will design a major new canoeing and kayaking facility within the dock.
The project is planned to be completed in 2020, and will develop a white-water course including a swift water rescue training facility and a public lido. It is also proposing to repurpose the City Council’s Docklands Offices on Custom House Quay.
It is visualised that the white-water course will be located around the edge of George’s Dock, with the swift water training facility and possible public lido located on the centre island in the Dock.
The Dublin Docklands is a major regeneration zone on the River Liffey, stretching from the Talbot Memorial Bridge to the 3Arena. George’s Dock was created in 1821 as part of a complex of warehouses and docks, and today it features a large pontoon that is often used for open-air public events.
The deadline for design team applications is 16th May.
