Urban Brewing at Dublin’s CHQ
September 22, 2017
Urban Brewing – Dublin’s newest craft brewery, bar and restaurant has officially launched in Dublin’s CHQ. Set in the 1,000 square metre restored 19th century bonded warehouse where precious cargo like wine, tobacco, tea and spirits were once stored in the city’s docklands, giving it a decadent atmosphere.
Seamus O’Hara, CEO of Carlow Brewing Company, explained why Urban Brewing is a logical next step for the business: “Urban Brewing has been a dream of the brewery team for a long time, but we needed to wait for the right space, with the right character and concept, before we were comfortable taking such a big step.”
He believes that this provides a unique experience for the customer, as not only has the building retained many of the original fixtures but the addition of a full on-site brewery is offered by only a handful of other operators.
The location of Urban Brewing, in the sought after area of Custom House Quay in the IFSC, was very important to the company as Seamus said that the area “Has an edge, it’s authentic, and it is an exciting and rapidly developing area of the city, so we see a lot of parallels. The design of the building is not so much a restoration as a modern continuation of what was here before, and we know it is something that is going to appeal to our customers.” This is also reflected in the layout of the interior, with separate areas allowing customers to experience something different each time they visit.
