NAMA has been heavily involved in building more housing in Dublin, focusing on the Docklands. NAMA’s role in the docklands is linked to the designation of the area as a strategic development zone (SDZ) and they have established a dedicated planning scheme for the area while fast-tracked planning permission for the North Lotts and Grand Canal Docks. The Docklands has an area of 22 hectares of undeveloped land, of which 75 percent is controlled by NAMA.
The land controlled by NAMA will be developed into commercial and residential property. However with regards to actual housing units, Dublin City Council has approximated the construction of approximately 2,600 units, of which only 10 percent will be social housing.
