Plans for a new bridge over the Liffey have been derailed. The plans were due to cater for pedestrians and cyclists in the Docklands.
The City Council had originally planned to build the 17 million euro pedestrian and cycle bridge connecting an old Victorian railway station on North Wall Quay to Forbes Street at Grand Canal Dock. However, the old station was the planned located for a Dart Underground stop.
With that project still up in the air – the Council decided to move the planned bridge 150 metres east.
But an Bord Pleanala’s refused permission for the relocation. The board said it believed the original plan was appropriate due to a clear desire line for pedestrians and cyclists between north and south of the Liffey.
