National Commemoration for Irish Seafarers

The annual National Commemoration Service for Irish Seafarers was held on Sunday 19th December in City Quay, Dublin. The service was hosted by the Maritime Institute of Ireland and involved a wreath-laying ceremony on the City Quay memorial.

The Memorial is dedicated to honour seamen who lost their lives while serving on Irish merchant ships from the year 1939-1945 during World War 2. War time Irish shipping companies ‘House Flags’ and the banner of the Maritime Institute of Ireland was paraded by the Sea Scouts.
