Residential accommodation shortfall anticipated for Dublin’s Docklands

The volume of office space being built or currently in the planning stage in the Dublin Docklands far outweighs the construction of residential homes being built, according to real estate agent Owen Reilly. According to Reilly, office space for around 28,000 workers is currently in planning, while on the residential side, homes for a maximum 6,500 are in development. That means for every 1 person living in the area, there will be more than 4 people commuting to work.

Only 1,865 apartments are in the planning or construction stage, of which only 630 will be completed by 2019. For more information about the residential accommodation shortfall affecting the Docklands, see Peter Hamilton’s article from The Irish Times here.
