Spongebob musical at Bord Gais theatre to make a splash this May
February 9, 2023
SpongeBob, a “hilarious deep-sea pearl of a show that is poised to make a splash with audiences young and old,” will be performing at the Bord Gais Energy theater in May.
All singing, all dancing, and dynamic are promised for the performance. The story will center on SpongeBob and his pals learning that a volcano is about to erupt and obliterate their modest home. After that, the people of Bikini Bottom must band together to safeguard the future of their underwater home, with the appearance of a “very unexpected hero.”
There is a lot of opportunity for a few bops because the musical is based on the original Nickelodeon series and will contain original songs by a variety of artists. The soundtrack includes songs by David Bowie, Aerosmith luminaries Joe Perry and Steven Tyler, Sara Bareilles, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, and They Might Be Giants.
In some less than expected casting news for the show, it has been announced that the iconic 2000’s singer Gareth Gates is set to take on the role of Squidward for the shows.
Gareth shared his announcement on Instagram, saying: “I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be making a splash as Squidward in SpongeBob the UK tour! Performing at selected venues only.”
The Broadway smash will make its Irish debut on May 9 and run through May 13 with tickets beginning at €21.50. Ticketmaster is the place as always to buy tickets.
