Walking Tours of Grand Canal Dock

Ever wanted to get to know the history of the Grand Canal area? Waterways Ireland are providing Walking tours this summer. The tour begins in the Waterways Ireland Visitor Centre located on Grand Canal Quay and explores Grand Canal Dock from its historical development in the 18th century that changed the shape of Dublin city to its recent redevelopment as an exciting new urban landscape at the heart of the city.
The guides will explain the role of Waterways Ireland as guardians of the waterways and describe the unique position of our canals as historical highways, important environmental habitats and recreational treasures. You will hear the story of the Royal and Grand canals and the race to reach the Shannon. Find out what life was like living and working in Dublin’s Docklands. Discover how the canals played a constant role in the history of the city’s economic, social and cultural development. Admire the fantastic mix of industrial and modern architecture and explore all the amenities and has to offer!
The centre is open Wednesday – Sunday 10-6pm and for private functions.
There are two daily public tours at 11.30am and 14.30pm (Wednesday -Sunday)
